Man killed in Sugar House shooting

The suspected shooter is cooperating with investigators, police said.

(Salt Lake City Police Department) Salt Lake City police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead early Thursday in Sugar House.

Salt Lake City police are investigating a fatal shooting in the Sugar House area early Thursday.

Police said that at 2:17 a.m., they received reports of a shooting near 1100 East and Simpson Avenue. When they arrived, they found a man who had been shot. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The suspected shooter was still at the scene when officers arrived and is cooperating with investigators, police said. “There is no risk to our community.”

The gun detectives suspect was used in the shooting has been recovered, police said, but no arrests had been made as of Thursday morning.

It’s unclear what led to the shooting. Police did not release further details, including the identity of the man killed, or the suspected shooter.
