A 3-year-old Taylorsville boy died early Thursday after suffering a gunshot wound. According to police, the boy apparently got ahold of an “unsecured” handgun and accidentally shot himself.
According to authorities, one of the child’s parents called 911 shortly after 1 a.m. and said the boy had been accidentally shot. When officers arrived at the apartment near 5600 South and Redwood Road, they attempted life-saving measures, but the child died at the scene.
The parent told police that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.
Police continue to investigate the shooting, including how the child got the gun. According to the Taylorsville Police Department, the investigation is continuing and the boy’s parents are not in custody.
