Some areas could get more than a foot of snow this week.

The weather is going to be great for trick-or-treaters on Monday, but high winds and snow are headed for Utah this week.

There’s no rain or snow in the Halloween forecast for the state Monday, according to the National Weather Service, and temperatures will be relatively mild.

It’ll be in the 50s and 60s across the state — the mid-50s in Salt Lake City and Cedar City; the low 50s in Logan; and the upper 60s in St. George.

(National Weather Service) The forecast is looking good for Utah trick-or-treaters this year.

But things will take a turn on Tuesday — and an even harder turn on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service issued a high wind advisory from noon until midnight Tuesday across much of western Utah, extending into the Salt Lake and Tooele Valleys.

Winds of 25-35 mph and gusts of more than 55 mph are possible in Salt Lake City, West Jordan, Sandy, Tooele, Grantsville, Wendover, Dugway, Delta, Beaver, Cedar City, and Milford.

These winds could damage property, cause power outages and make travel difficult, “especially for high profile vehicles,” with blowing dust reducing visibility in some areas, according to the weather service.

After highs in the mid-60s Tuesday, rain, snow and much colder temperatures will follow Wednesday as a cold front moves through the state. According to the weather service, the mountains will get about 6-12 inches of snow. Southwest valleys (not including lower Washington County) could see anywhere from trace snow up to 6 inches.

Salt Lake City can expect highs in the mid-40s on Wednesday; about 40 on Thursday and Friday; and about 50 on Saturday and Sunday.

Rain is expected to begin after 1 a.m. on Wednesday, and change to a mix of rain and snow after 10 a.m. There’s an 80% chance of rain and snow during the day, and a 90% chance of rain/snow that will turn to a chance of just snow Wednesday night. Accumulations of 1-2 inches are possible.

There’s a 60% chance of more snow Thursday, mostly before 7 a.m., with accumulations of less than another inch. And there’s a 30% chance of a bit more snow on Thursday evening, mostly before 7 p.m.

Expect sunny skies on Friday, but a chance of rain and snow on Saturday, and more rain on Saturday night and Sunday.

Southern Utah will be warmer. In St. George, expect temperatures in the low 70s on Tuesday. It’ll drop to the low 60s Wednesday, with a slight chance of rain.

The probability of rain will rise to 60% chance on Wednesday night, with a 40% chance on Thursday, when the high will be near 50. The sun will return for the weekend, as temperatures rise to the mid-50s on Friday, about 60 on Saturday and the mid-60s on Sunday.
