Utah’s brief bout of springlike weather is going to end on Friday night, according to the National Weather Service, and the weekend will look like winter.

Temperatures reached 71 degrees in Salt Lake City on Thursday, which tied the record high for the date, according to the weather service. A mild high of 58 is forecast for Friday — along with a chance of rain mixed with snow, mostly after 11 a.m.

That probability will rise Friday night as the chance of rain and snow becomes a chance of only snow, though less than a half-inch is expected.

A bigger storm is expected to move in over the weekend. There won’t be much valley snow accumulation during the day Saturday (less than an inch), but there could be 2-4 inches on Saturday night, and another 1-3 inches on Sunday, according to the weather service. There’s a slight chance of more snow on Monday.

The mountains are expected to get hit with 10-18 inches of snow.

The forecast high in Salt Lake City on Saturday is 47 degrees, with an overnight low of 31. Sunday and Monday will see highs of 38 and 37 degrees, respectively, followed by lows of 28 and 21. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-40s through most of next week.

Normal highs for this time of year in Salt Lake City are 51-53 degrees, and normal lows are 33-35.

Temperatures will also plummet in southern Utah, from the upper 70s on Thursday to the upper 50s on Friday and the low 50s Saturday, Sunday and Monday, with overnight lows falling from the upper 40s to the low to mid-30s. Normal highs in St. George are 65-65 degrees; normal lows are 36-37.

Rain is likely in St. George on Friday and Saturday, and there’s a slight chance of rain mixed with snow on Sunday morning, changing to all rain later in the day.
