The fire Saturday destroyed a candy store and a children’s ride at the amusement park.

Despite a fire that destroyed two of its attractions over the weekend, Lagoon Amusement Park will open on schedule in 2022, according to park management.

“We are already making plans to rebuild for the upcoming season,” Lagoon posted on Facebook. The park generally opens on weekends in late March.

According to the Farmington Fire Department, fire broke out in the Carousel Candy store about 8 a.m. on Saturday. Firefighters battled the blaze for about two hours, and believed it had been extinguished.

However, witnesses reported flames at the same site shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. When crews arrived, the candy store was burning and the flames spread to the adjacent children’s bumper car ride. Both were destroyed, but firefighters from Farmington, South Davis, Kaysville, Layton and Hill Air Force Base were able to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

On its Facebook page, Lagoon posted: “In 1953, this same time of year, the Lagoon Midway was destroyed by fire. The park opened on time in 1954 … and Lagoon will do the same in 2022.”
