He got out of his car after an initial crash and was struck by another vehicle.

(Department of Public Safety) A man in his 20s was struck and killed when he stepped out of his car after a crash on Interstate 215.

A man was struck and killed on northbound Interstate 215 near 3300 South in Millcreek early Friday, according to Utah Highway Patrol.

The victim — a man in his 20s — was driving to work shortly before 5:30 a.m. when he slammed into a trailer that had come unhooked from a pickup truck, according to Highway Patrol. The trailer had come to a rest in the center lane of the roadway when the man’s Toyota 4Runner crashed into it.

The victim then got out of his car and was struck and killed by another vehicle, a news release states.

Highway Patrol on Friday did not identify the man killed. It’s unclear if anyone may face charges in connection with the crash.

Northbound I-215 was closed at Exit 4 as the fatality was investigated, snarling the morning commute. The highway was reopened at about 10 a.m.
