Driver runs over Utah cyclist twice, critically injuring him

77-year-old woman tells Roy police she backed up to see what she had hit.

A Utah bicyclist was critically injured when a driver ran over him with her car, then backed up and ran over him again.

According to Roy police, a 77-year-old woman was pulling out of a parking lot onto 3500 West near 5600 South on Monday at about 8:22 a.m., when she hit the 62-year-old victim. The driver told police that she didn’t know what she’d hit, so she put her car in reverse and unknowingly ran over the victim a second time.

Surveillance video from a business shows that the woman then pulled forward again, running over the bike for a third time but missing the victim.

Police and paramedics performed lifesaving measures on the victim, who was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden in critical condition.

According to police, the driver remained on the scene and cooperated with officers. They do not believe she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The investigation into the crash is continuing.
