Park City fire chief dies following crash

Park City Fire District Chief Paul Hewitt died Friday following a crash in an off-road vehicle, according to the fire district.

Hewitt, 58, died at a Eugene, Ore., hospital four days after the crash, according to a post on the fire district’s Facebook page. He had been on vacation with his family at the time.

Hewitt stepped into the role of Park City Fire chief in 2011 after spending 20 years with the Salt Lake City Fire Department.

“He set an example of true leadership and touched so many with his genuine personality and compassion for others,” the fire district said in the Facebook post. “He will be greatly missed by the Park City Fire Department family.”
