Ogden becomes the latest Utah city to ban fireworks

Open burning will also be banned inside city limits — the restriction will be in effect until November.

(Mark Hansen | The Salt Lake Tribune) Residents aren't allowed to use fireworks in Ogden until November.

Ogden residents will have to join Salt Lake City residents in not setting off fireworks this Independence Day.

Ogden City Council on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution banning fireworks, open burning and recreational fires within city limits.

The ban will be in place until Nov. 15, unless the Ogden City fire marshal determines that environmental conditions have improved enough to end the ban. Council members had previously said they were worried that water conservation measures intended to combat the state’s drought have caused dry vegetation in the city that could create a fire risk, according to the city’s meeting documents.

A number of other Utah cities, including Holladay and Salt Lake City, have also banned fireworks.
