A 40-year-old Utah man has been charged after he allegedly beat up and threatened to kill his roommate’s mother in a dispute over energy drinks.

According to the charges, the victim told Sunset police that she stayed overnight in the home her son shared with the suspect because of a “different altercation” between the two. On the morning of April 16, the woman saw the suspect pouring her son’s energy drinks down the sink and confronted him. She said the suspect “went ape sh--,” punched her repeatedly in the face and dragged her outside by her hair.

The victim told police that the suspect threatened to kill her and stabbed toward her face with a knife. According to the charges, paramedics found two cuts on her ear, and police officers found a knife hidden under a pillow inside the home.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where doctors treated her for a broken nose she suffered when she was punched.

The suspect was charged in 2nd District Court with aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; and assault, a Class A misdemeanor.
