Child dies after being found in Cache County river

Sheriff’s Office says it appears to be a tragic accident.

A 3-year-old child died in what the Cache County Sheriff’s Office said looks like a tragic accident after the child was found in a river behind the child’s home in Lewinston on Saturday.

The Sheriff’s Office was sent to look for a missing child, but the search turned into a possible drowning investigation when the battery powered four-wheeler the child had been riding on was found in the river. The child was found in the river before officers arrived. Life saving measures were performed, but the child did not survive.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating but says the death appears to be a “tragic accident.”

“We would like to remind the public to take this unfortunate event as a reminder to tell your kids you love them, give them an extra huge and kiss and to always cherish the moment,” reads a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.
