One dead, one wounded in shooting at Salt Lake convenience store

Police are looking for a suspect — or, possibly, suspects.

One man is dead, another is wounded and police are searching for at least one suspect after a shooting late Wednesday in Salt Lake City.

According to police, there was “an altercation of some kind” at the entrance to a convenience store at 203 E. Hampton Ave. just before midnight. One man shot two others and the shooter fled in what witnesses said was a dark-colored, possibly gray, Nissan Altima. There may have been more than one person in the car.

One of the victims died at the scene. A second victim was taken to the University of Utah Hospital in critical condition. Their names have not been released.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call them at 801-799-3000.
