13-year-old dies after being hit by car in West Jordan

A 13-year-old boy died after being hit by a vehicle in West Jordan on Thursday, police said.

West Jordan Police Sgt. J.C. Holt said the call came in around 6:30 a.m. Holt said it appears the boy was trying to cross Redwood Road to go to school. He said West Jordan Middle School is close to where the boy was hit.

The boy was struck while running across the road, said Holt. He said the driver tried to avoid hitting the boy but was not able to take action in time to avoid the collision. The boy died because of his injuries.

The area where the collision occurred is not well-lit and does not have a crosswalk, Holt said. He described the boy’s death as a tragic accident.

“It’s a terrible tragedy and our hearts go out to all those involved and affected,” said Holt.
