‘Utah Booze News’ podcast: A multistory liquor outlet in Salt Lake City and beer over the border

(Francisco Kjolseth | Tribune file photo) Brett Smith, left, speaks with Cade Meier, deputy director of the DABC, at the West Valley City liquor store on Monday, June 12, 2017.

In the coming weeks, the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control is expected to break ground on new liquor stores in Farmington and Saratoga Springs.

The state agency also will select the final site for a replacement store — possibly its first two-story building — in downtown Salt Lake City.

On the latest episode of the “Utah Booze News” podcast, Cade Meier, deputy director of the DABC, provides The Salt Lake Tribune’s Kathy Stephenson and Fox 13′s Ben Winslow with a retail update — what stores are under construction, which ones will be remodeled and what’s on the horizon.

Also on the podcast, stronger beer in Utah grocery stores has weakened sales in border towns like Evanston, Wyo.; West Wendover, Nev.; and Malad, Idaho. Listen here.
