An experimental plane crashed Monday in Sanpete County, killing two men.

The Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting the downed plane at 5:11 p.m. According to a Facebook post by the department, the “small, glider-type craft” went down approximately 4 miles northeast of Ephraim City, and the men onboard — whose names have not been released — were dead when rescue teams arrived.

The plane had taken off from the Nephi airport and was en route to an airport near Richfield. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.

Also on Monday, the wreckage of a small plane missing since Sunday was located; the two Utahns aboard were both killed.
