Small plane crashes on New Bingham Highway in West Jordan, but no one is injured

A Lehi man escaped injury when he crashed his small plane on New Bingham Highway near the West Jordan Soccer Complex on Tuesday morning.

The 42-year-old man, whose name was not released, was practicing takeoffs and landings at the South Valley Regional Airport at about 11 a.m. when the plane experienced mechanical problems, according to West Jordan police. The pilot was forced to land on the road near 7265 S. 4450 West.

The plane hit the ground hard in the eastbound lane of New Bingham Highway, spun around and ended up in the westbound lane, but did not collide with any cars on the ground. The damaged plane blocked one lane of traffic, but was quickly moved off the road.
