Utah Highway Patrol troopers cleared a nearly 20-car pile-up on eastbound State Route 201 just before 3200 West in West Valley City on Thursday evening.

Troopers tweeted that the eastbound lanes of State Route 201 were closed because of the pile-up. Troopers initially reported 20 cars were involved in the crash, but later revised the number to 16, according to FOX 13.

As of 5:20 p.m., state troopers had responded to 154 crashes, nearly all of them a result of drivers going too fast for the snowy and icy conditions or following over vehicles too closely, the department tweeted.

“It’s simple folks,” they said. “SLOW DOWN and increase your following distances on wet, slick, snow-packed, and icy roadways!”
