A Clearfield man was booked into jail early Friday after reports that he threatened to commit a mass shooting at a St. George-area Walmart — a threat that was being shared on social media.

Milton Bowcutt, 26, is under investigation for threat of violence, a class-B misdemeanor; possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, a class-A misdemeanor; and possession of a controlled substance, a class-B misdemeanor. And the St. George Police Department is reassuring residents that the threat has been eliminated.

“PLEASE READ AND SHARE,” it posted on Facebook. “The suspect behind this threat was located and arrested last night by police agencies on the east side of the county.”

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Bowcutt has made “threats to shoot people” at a Walmart and commit “suicide by cop.” His vehicle was located in Springdale and he was detained by officers from the sheriff’s office and Hurricane Police.

The department posted about the arrest Friday morning.

Formal charges have not yet been filed.
