One woman shot, two men arrested after gunfight at South Salt Lake bar

Two men are in custody after a bar fight turned into a raging gunfight in South Salt Lake early Sunday morning.

Falefatu Fatiau, 27, and Stephano Tuisila, 22, were each booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of 19 counts of felony discharge of a firearm and one count of aggravated assault; Fatiau was also under investigation for possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.

According to South Salt Lake police, they received a report of a fight and shooting at Scallywags Bar, 3040 S. State St., about 1 a.m. Sunday. Witnesses reported that a fight started inside, and bar security threw several people out. The fight resumed outside when someone threw a glass, and “two males ran to a vehicle and retrieved a handgun and an assault rifle and began shooting into a group of people in the parking lot.”

The incident was recorded by the bar's video surveillance system.

A woman, who has not been identified, was struck three times and transported to a local hospital in critical condition; a man was transported to the hospital with serious injuries from the fight.

According to probable cause statements, Fatiau fired 11 rounds from a .223 rifle while two “associates” fired eight more rounds toward a group of people; Fatiau admitted to firing the rifle. Tuisila admitted to firing one round from a handgun while two of his “associates” fired 18 rounds toward a group of people.
