A gym, a glamping retreat, a popular pizzeria‘s new location, four bars and almost 20 restaurants all received some form of a liquor license at the state liquor board’s monthly meeting.

On Thursday, the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services’ (DABS) liquor commission approved bar licenses for the following bars:

• Gem 21, at 122 W. Pierpont Avenue, Unit B, in Salt Lake City. DABS spokesperson Michelle Schmitt said Gem 21 is in the same location as Gem Nightclub, but now the upstairs will have a full bar license and the main floor will have a beer license.

• Squatters Corner Pub Bar, 3555 Constitution Blvd., West Valley City. Schmitt said the license for Squatters also will be a dual license, with the neighboring Squatters Corner Pub, which is a full-service restaurant.

• The Break, 12258 S. 700 East, Draper. This is the sixth Utah location for the chain of sports bars.

• Gradys, 736 W. Blue Vista Lane, Unit 200, Midvale.

The commission also awarded full-service liquor licenses (beer, wine and spirits) to Lifetime Fitness, a “luxury health club and fitness center” in South Jordan at 10996 S. River Front Parkway, and the upcoming second location for pizzeria Bricks Corner, now under construction in West Valley City at 2508 S. 5600 West.

Under Canvas, a fancy campground near Zion National Park at 3955 Kolob Terrace Road in Virgin, also received a full-service liquor license.

One bar in Delta, Curley’s Lounge, got in trouble with the commission for not remitting its sales taxes to the state. After the owner addressed the commissioners and told them she had the money ready to be paid, they gave her 48 hours to pay the taxes before her liquor license would be suspended.

Such a suspension would last for 60 days, after which the license would be revoked, and the business owner couldn’t reapply for a license for three years.

The owner of Henry Baker, a fine-dining concept that has been under construction since at least 2022, gave an estimated opening date for his new restaurant. The building, at 240 S. 1300 East, formerly housed an Einstein’s Bagels near the University of Utah.

Seeking an extension of Henry Baker’s conditional liquor license, owner Ed Hutchins said construction was taking longer than he’d anticipated and that he hoped to be finished by June 1. The commission voted unanimously to approve the extension.
