Salt Lake City’s Gourmandise bakery is expanding.
Owners Vernon and Hally Hanssen — who bought the business 12 years ago — recently opened Gourmandise To-Go at 1000 S. Main, Salt Lake City.
The new location, in a space previously occupied by Bake 360, has a smaller menu than the original store at 250 S. 300 East. But it does include a large central kitchen, where all the cookies, cakes, breads and other decadent desserts for the entire company are baked, says Clinton Fowler, Gourmandise director of operations.
Production likely will increase this month as a new Draper location comes on line at 725 E. 12300 South. The new store — which is scheduled to open Sunday, Nov. 18, with a grand opening set for Friday, Nov 23 — will have an identical menu to the downtown shop and will feature the large glass cases that showcase the European pastries — everything from creamy éclairs and chocolate brownies to buttery croissants and fruit-filled tarts — for which Gourmandise is known.

The Draper shop also will be open for lunch and dinner, serving soups, salads, sandwiches, small plates and dinner options.
“We outgrew our kitchen,” said Fowler, who noted that expanding to southern Salt Lake County was necessary to accommodate customers who had been driving long distances. “Expanding to Draper is our way of supporting our faithful guests.”
Gourmandise also has purchased two vans to get products to the downtown and Draper stores, Fowler said. “We have someone baking 24 hours a day.”
