Fandom fanatics will have two FanX Comic & Pop Culture Conventions to look forward to in 2027 — the final few for the next three years at the Salt Palace Convention Center.
The first, the spring FanX, will take place from March 11 to 13. The second is planned for sometime in September.
In 2027, the convention center in downtown Salt Lake City is set to start undergoing renovations as part of the Sports, Entertainment, and Culture Convention District spearheaded by Smith Entertainment Group. The venue will be closed for three years for those renovations.
The construction will limit the convention’s floor plan to “about 50%” of its normal space, according to a spokesperson for the convention. Holding two conventions is meant to offset the capacity limitation.
Halls A-E, the breakout rooms around them and the Grand Ballroom will be available for use.
(Bethany Baker | The Salt Lake Tribune) Thousands of fans fill the grand ballroom for the Lord of the Rings celebrity panel during FanX at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024.
This is not the first time FanX has had two runs in one year. In its early years, from 2014-2017 and in 2019, there were two conventions annually.
A loyalty launch sale for the March 2027 FanX will open on Wednesday at noon Mountain time, featuring the lowest priced tickets. FanX officials advise fans to buy tickets during this sale, as they predict they will sell out.
Celebrity guest announcements for the spring and fall shows will start to roll out after this week’s ticket sale. Fans can keep up-to-date with those by following FanX on social media.
The convention’s spokesperson said despite the limited square footage, “our fans are what makes FanX special, and our mission and goals stay the same, no matter how much square footage we have.”
Starting in 2028, the convention will move to the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy.
