Red Butte’s season begins
Now that the weather seems to have finally turned toward the sunny, it’s the perfect time for Red Butte Garden’s summer concert series to start. The opener, on Tuesday, is Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, the funk/rock/jam band formed by the longtime Primus frontman — along with Sean Ono Lennon (John and Yoko’s son) on guitar, Harry Waters (son of Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters) on keyboards, former Cake drummer Paulo Baldi, as well as percussionist Mike Dillon and horn player Sherik. Opening the show is Fishbone. The show at Red Butte, 300 Wakara Way, Salt Lake City, starts at 7 p.m.; gates open at 6 p.m. The show is sold out.
Shania’s big tour
Another summer venue getting started this week is Usana Amphitheatre, at 5150 S. 6055 West, West Valley City — with country legend Shania Twain, coming to town on her “Queen of Me” tour. Wednesday’s show starts at 7:30 p.m., with opening act Hailey Whitters. Resale tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com.
Chasten Buttigieg’s book
Teacher and LGBTQ+ activist Chasten Buttigieg — husband of Pete Buttigieg, the U.S. Transportation Secretary — is visiting Salt Lake City on Friday to promote his new book, the young adult version of his memoir, “I Have Something to Tell You.” Buttigieg will discuss the book with Troy Williams, executive director of Equality Utah, at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA), at 20 S. West Temple, Salt Lake City. The event starts at 6 p.m. General admission for two, which includes a copy of the book, is $30 (plus fees), available at kingsenglish.com/event.
