‘High School Musical’ series renewed for Season 3 — but it won’t be coming back to Utah

Production will switch from East High to Los Angeles.

(Photo courtesy Craig Sjodin/Disney+) “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” stars Mark St. Cyr as Mr. Mazarra, Dara Reneé as Kourtney, Larry Saperstein as Big Red, Joshua Bassett as Ricky, Frankie A. Rodriguez as Carlos, Olivia Rodrigo as Nini, Julia Lester as Ashlyn, Matt Cornett as E.J., Kate Reindeers as Miss Jenn and Sofia Wylie as Gina.

Disney+ has renewed “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” for a third season, but the production will not return to Salt Lake City and East High School.

After two seasons of stories centered on East High, the cast will “leave the hallways of East High for the ultimate summer at sleep-away camp, complete with campfires, summer romances and curfew-less nights.”

Instead of shooting in Utah, the production will shift to Los Angeles sometime later this year. No air date was announced.

“We are overjoyed to be heading to the great outdoors for Season 3, and grateful to our partners and friends at Disney+ for their continued support of our next-generation Wildcats,” said executive producer Tim Federle.

Seasons 1 and 2 of “HSM:TM:TS” are currently streaming on Disney+.
