Red Butte Garden announces first concert for 2021 summer series

Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit to play the garden on July 30; the band’s Eccles show will move to next March.

Red Butte Garden has announced the first date on its 2021 summer concert series — the first effort to bring live music back to the garden’s outdoor stage after COVID-19 forced a cancellation of the 2020 season.

Alt-country singer-songwriter Jason Isbell and his band, The 400 Unit, are scheduled to perform Friday, July 30, garden organizers announced Tuesday. Folk/rock/country singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams will be the opening act.

Tickets for Isbell’s Red Butte show will go on sale to garden members Thursday at 9 a.m. They will go on sale to everyone else Friday at 9 a.m.

Isbell and his band already were scheduled to perform Saturday, July 31, at the Eccles Theater. That show now will be rescheduled for March 8, 2022, according to the Eccles website.

People who bought tickets for Isbell’s Eccles show can still use them next year, but not for the Red Butte show. Tickets for the Eccles concert next March still are on sale at ArtTix.org.

Isbell last played at Red Butte in September 2019, the last time the garden had a summer season — because its 2020 concert series was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

More shows for Red Butte will be announced later in June, according to the venue’s website.
