“College GameDay” in Provo was a hit.
A big hit.
ESPN announced Tuesday that its broadcast from the BYU campus was the most-watched “GameDay” of the season and the third-most-watched regular-season episode ever.
Maybe that’s why the popular pregame show is heading just a little farther north this week, visiting Salt Lake City for No. 10 Utah’s matchup against No. 14 Houston this Saturday.
But a bigger — much bigger — game is just on the horizon.
On Nov. 7, the highest-ranked BYU-Utah matchup ever could be coming.

The Cougars are currently ranked No. 2 in the AP Top 25 Poll coming off their big win over Notre Dame. The Utes, meanwhile, jumped to No. 10 after they escaped with a victory at Colorado.
A Utah win this weekend over those other Cougars would certainly bolster the program’s odds of climbing even higher.
But with “College GameDay” in the state for the second week in a row, does that kill any chance the college football pregame show visits Utah again?
Well, not exactly.
“Our aim is to always take ‘College GameDay’ to the best matchups with the most compelling storylines, and we’ll evaluate that week just as we do every other week,” ESPN spokesperson Courtney Clawson said in a statement to The Salt Lake Tribune.
And ESPN may have some added incentive to come back: ratings.
The broadcast from BYU drew 3 million viewers, with 3.9 million tuning in for the final hour. With numbers that good, why not feature the Cougars on ‘GameDay’ again?
Even with those high ratings, the odds may be stacked against ESPN making another trip to the state for BYU-Utah.
The main reason: Nov. 7 is loaded with premier matchups, with potentially three top-10 games.
No. 1 Miami will visit No. 4 Notre Dame, No. 5 Georgia travels to No. 7 Ole Miss, and Utah versus BYU.
Other matchups, like No. 11 Tennessee versus No. 12 Kentucky, No. 13 Alabama at No. 18 LSU and No. 3 Ohio State versus Oregon, could also be in play for a “GameDay” visit.
It’s also not out of the realm of possibility that Salt Lake City could host the pregame show twice in the same season.
“GameDay” went to Oregon twice in 2025, and Texas hosted two times in 2024.
It has happened before. It certainly can happen again.

But for now, Utah and ESPN are focused on this week’s show from Presidents Circle. And ESPN thinks it adds a fun wrinkle that Utah is hosting on the heels of its rival.
“We’re excited to showcase another great college football environment in Utah this week,” Clawson said.
“It’s certainly a fun and unique opportunity for the Utah students and fans to have a chance to show the country their passion and energy just one week after their rivals in Provo.”
Utah athletic director Mark Harlan added that it’s “remarkable” the show has stayed in the state for two weeks.
“To have two teams here in the top 10 — in this era — is just incredible,” Harlan said. “I’m really close with [BYU head coach Kalani Sitake], and he’s awesome.
“I certainly have been watching them and watching a lot of other teams, but to see both teams win, and in this way, and be undefeated, it’s remarkable.”
Remarkable enough to garner another “GameDay” visit next month? Time will tell.
