Brynna Maxwell and Jenna Johnson scored 21 points apiece, and Kennaday McQueen added 20 to lead the University of Utah women’s basketball team to a 106-71 victory over Xavier on Saturday afternoon at the Huntsman Center.

The Utes (2-0), which shot 52.1% from the floor and connected on 41.2% of its 3-point attempts against the Musketeers (0-2), scored 100 points or more in consecutive games for the first time since the 1978-79 season.

Dru Gylten had seven assists to move into eighth place on the Utes’ career list. Johnson and McQueen set career-highs in points, while Johnson led the Utes with seven rebounds.

“We had three scorers with 20 points, which is the first time in my career,” Utah coach Lynne Roberts said. “We’re sharing it well, and I love it. We only had four turnovers in the last five minutes of the game, and when we were taking care of the ball, we ended up shooting it well. I was pleased with the intensity and hustle.

“I loved seeing Kennady dive for the ball at the end of the second half when we were up big. I thought Jenna was fantastic today, 9-of-13 shooting and seven rebounds, certainly a breakout game for her. We need to work on our fouls, but other than that, I’m really happy with our effort.”
