After giving up an early goal, Real Salt Lake rallied to beat the Colorado Rapids 2-1 in a Major League Soccer game Saturday night in Sandy for its second straight victory.

Sergi Solans had a goal and an assist as RSL (8-4-1) beat its regional rival and moved into third place in the Western Conference.

Colorado (5-8-1) slipped to 11th place.

The victory gives RSL a leg up in this season’s Rocky Mountain Cup competition, with the second meeting scheduled for Aug. 29 at Colorado. RSL is looking to reclaim the Cup for the first time since 2023.

The game wrapped up a three-game week for RSL, which lost 3-1 at Dallas on May 9 before defeating the Houston Dynamo 3-0 on Wednesday.

In the seventh minute of Saturday’s game, Colorado’s Connor Ronan sent a corner kick across the box, Paxten Aaronson brought the ball down and sent a pass to the front of the goal, and Wayne Frederick kicked the ball past RSL goalkeeper Rafael Cabral for the 1-0 lead.

Rising star Zavier Gozo scored an equalizer in the 36th minute off a pass from Solans to tie the game. It was the fourth goal in four games for RSL’s Gozo, a 19-year-old who is being considered for a spot on the U.S. men’s national team that will play in the World Cup this summer.

In the 68th minute, Solans scored on a header off a fast-break pass from Juan Manuel Sanabria to give RSL a 2-1 lead.

Real Salt Lake had a 16-8 advantage in shots in the game, including an 8-4 edge in shots on target.

RSL goalkeeper Cabral made three saves, while Colorado’s Nico Hansen made six.

RSL is scheduled to visit Minnesota United FC on Saturday, May 23 (2:30 p.m. MDT, Apple TV), for its final game before Major League Soccer takes a seven-week break for the World Cup.
