Ready for the Royals? Here’s when the women’s soccer team plays its first game back in Utah

The Utah Royals will open the 2024 season America First Field.

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Utah Royals FC coach Amy Rodriguez is introduced in Sandy on Thursday, April 20, 2023.

The time has come.

After years of not having a professional women’s soccer team once the Utah Royals FC was sold and moved to Kansas City, fans of professional women’s soccer in the Beehive State will get watch their hometown team again in just a couple of months.

The Royals released their 2024 schedule this week. While there is a month-long break in it due to the 2024 Paris Olympics, Utahns will have plenty of opportunities this spring and summer to watch their returned Royals take the pitch at America First Field under new coach — and former Royal — Amy Rodriguez.

URFC will open its season on March 16 at home against the Chicago Red Stars. Coincidentally, the Red Stars are the same team the Royals started their season against in 2018, the first-ever year the Royals were in Utah.

The Chicago game is followed by another home game on March 22 against the two-time National Women’s Soccer League champion North Carolina Courage.

Another notable home game is May 3 against Angel City FC, which has the services of former Royal forward Christen Press.

Below is the entire schedule for 2024.
