Kyle Beckerman and Las Vegas like RSL’s title chances more and more

Real Salt Lake is currently third in the Western Conference and unbeaten in the last nine games.

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Houston Dynamo midfielder Darwin Ceren (24) hits the ground after colliding with Real Salt Lake midfielder Kyle Beckerman (5), in MLS soccer action, between Real Salt Lake and Houston Dynamo, at Rio Tinto Stadium, Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019.

Real Salt Lake is on a tear.

After struggling to score goals and win games in the first couple of months of the season, the team is unbeaten in its last nine games and quickly rising up the Western Conference standings as a result.

RSL currently sits third and is just four points away from the top spot.

The recent run of form has one RSL legend believing the team can win it all this year.

“I think there’s no reason why we can’t contend for a championship,” former midfielder Kyle Beckerman said. “Obviously, we still have a long way to go. But the way Pablo [Mastroeni] is going to coach these guys, they’re not going to get ahead of themselves. They’re going to stay humble and just try and keep marching to the next day. If we can take in some form like we’re seeing right now, there’s no one that RSL can’t beat on its day.”

Beckerman isn’t alone in his increasing optimism for an MLS title for RSL. Las Vegas oddsmakers have moved the betting lines significantly in the last three months.

In April, RSL’s odds of winning the title were as high as +12500, per sportsbettingdime.com’s odds tracker. Now, it’s as low as +2800. That data is as of July 11.

After RSL’s win Saturday, DraftKings moved its odds from +4000 to +3500 — the 12th best odds in the league.
