(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Houston Dynamo midfielder Darwin Ceren (24) hits the ground after colliding with Real Salt Lake midfielder Kyle Beckerman (5), in MLS soccer action between Real Salt Lake and Houston Dynamo, at Rio Tinto Stadium, Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019. MLS suspended Beckerman for kicking the ball at an official at the end of RSL’s loss to the San Jose Earthquakes on Monday, July 27, 2020.

If and when the Major League Soccer season continues, Real Salt Lake will be without its captain for a while.

The league announced Thursday that it suspended midfielder Kyle Beckerman an extra game and fined him for kicking the ball at an official at the end of RSL’s loss to the San Jose Earthquakes on Monday.

Beckerman received a red card for the sequence just seconds before the final whistle blew. He already had a game suspension coming to him for the red.

Beckerman’s suspension will now last two games.
