The Utah High School Activities Association board of trustees made changes to the 2019-2021 alignment of classifications and regions for five schools, the board announced Friday.
Four member schools on Thursday appealed to where they were placed in the alignment approved in early December and were heard by the board. The UHSAA adopted five changes as a result of those appeals.
East High moved to 5A, Region 6 in all actives except football. In the previous alignment, East was to be in 6A, Region 3 in all sports. East will stay in that 6A region for football.
West High moved to 6A, Region 2 for football only. It was in Region 3 of that classification for all sports in the prior alignment.
Jordan High went to 6A, Region 3 for all sports. It was previously in Region 6 of 6A.
Park City High, which was in Region 5 of 5A in the previous alignment for all sports except football, moved to Region 8 of that classification for all sports except football.
Lastly, Milford High went to 1A, Region 20 in sports except football. The school was previously in Region 21.
Jordan did not appeal or present in Thursday’s meeting, but expressed “a willingness to move classifications if a spot opened up,” said Jon Oglesby, assistant director of the USHAA. A spot presented itself, and Jordan was in favor of moving to balance the regions, he added.
