BYU’s matchup with Notre Dame next weekend in Provo just got a little bit bigger.

The Cougars will host the second-ranked team in the nation next week after Notre Dame moved up a spot to No. 2 in the latest AP poll.

The Irish will be the highest-ranked team to play at BYU since the Cougars hosted No. 1 USC in 2004.

As for BYU? The Cougars stayed at No. 8 after beating Iowa State 24-10.

So it will be No. 2 vs. No. 8 in Provo. It’s no wonder ESPN’s “College GameDay” opted to head to Utah for the game.

It will be the first time BYU hosts a top-10 matchup, and just the second time the Cougars have played in such a game. The first came last season against Texas Tech.

Utah, meanwhile, continued inching toward the top 10, moving up a spot to No. 11 after beating Kansas 41-24 on Saturday. The Utes play at Colorado next Saturday.

Three other Big 12 teams are ranked in this week’s poll: No. 10 Texas Tech, No. 18 Oklahoma State and No. 20 Houston.
