Provo • After getting all the new talent signed on in December, during the Early Signing Period, BYU focused on returned missionaries on National Signing Day.

On Wednesday, BYU announced 17 returning signees to the 2021 recruiting class. All but one of the previously signed 17 additions — tight end Dallin Holker, who played for the Cougars in 2018 before leaving to serve a church mission — will join the program for the first time. The majority of the 17 returning signees are returning from their own church mission.

Of the returning signees, nine are mid-year enrollees.

“We greatly appreciate the various sacrifices and service these players have given and are excited to welcome them back to our program,” BYU coach Kalani Sitake said. “They each delayed their enrollment after signing and will now be able to come and make an impact on our team in 2021. The players we signed in December in this year’s recruiting class are talented football players who will also have a huge impact on our program. I’m really excited about the athletic ability of this group.”

Campbell Barrington is among those that previously signed. The mid-year addition, who greyshirted last year, is the younger brother of BYU offensive lineman Clark Barrington. The name alone brings high expectations for this recruit.

Another player to keep an eye on is Fakaosi (Oliver) Nasilai, who is a dual running back/linebacker threat. He could take on the role similar to that of Tyler Allgeier, who played on both sides of the ball before focusing more on the offense in the 2020 season.

Notably, the Cougars will not be adding a quarterback this class. During the early signing period, BYU went after Jaxson Dart, of Corner Canyon, but he signed with USC.

Even without a quarterback in the class, the Cougars should be fine considering they have multiple players in that position, even with Zach Wilson leaving early.

All of the class of 2021 signees were designated at least a three-star recruit by ESPN, 247Sports and/or Rivals. BYU’s overall class is ranked 71st nationally by 24/7 and Rivals.
