(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Elton John performs in Salt Lake City on Wednesday Sept. 4, 2019.

Nathan Chen, the figure skater from Salt Lake City who just won gold at the Beijing Olympics, has been feeling the love ever since his big moment. On Thursday morning, though, he felt the love from a man who literally wrote the tune.

Elton John took to Twitter to congratulate Chen on his win. Chen performed his gold-medal-winning routine as another of John’s songs, “Rocket Man,” played in the arena.

“Congratulations @nathanwchen for winning Gold skating to Rocket Man in the free skate finals in Beijing,” John tweeted.

John also wrote that Chen features on a television he produced called “From The Top.”

Chen is known for including the “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” singer’s music into his routines. His routine also featured a remix of “Bennie and the Jets”.

John wasn’t the only notable public figure to sing the praises of the not-so-tiny dancer (Chen is 5-foot-6). Gov. Spencer Cox and Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall both tweeted in support of his win.
