For the second time in three years, Farmington’s Zach J. Johnson is joining PGA Tour regular Tony Finau in the PGA Championship.

Johnson, whose middle initial distinguishes him from tour veteran Zach Johnson, is a Davis Park Golf Course assistant pro from Cottonwood High School and Southern Utah University. He shot 76-69 in St. Louis in 2018, missing the 36-hole cut by five strokes. Johnson qualified for this year’s event in San Francisco via the 2019 PGA national points list, after the usual avenue for club pros – the PGA Professional Championship – was canceled due to COVID-19.

Johnson will tee off at 10:06 a.m. MDT on Thursday, playing with Chev Reavie and Corey Conners.

Finau, a West High graduate, is appearing in his 16th major tournament. He has made the cut 12 times in majors and posted six top-10 finishes, starting with the 2015 PGA Championship.

Finau plays at 8:27 a.m. MDT with Danny Willett and Patrick Cantlay.
