Golfer Daniel Summerhays will play on after strong finish at Utah Championship

Daniel Summerhays will extend his pro golf career in Colorado.

Summerhays is following through on his tie for second place in the Utah Championship by playing in the Korn Ferry Tour’s next event. He’s joining three other Utahns – Patrick Fishburn, Mike Weir and Connor Howe — in the TPC Colorado Championship at Heron Lakes, starting Wednesday at Berthoud, Colo.

Summerhays planned to retire as a touring pro after the Utah Championship, but his top-25 finish gave him a spot in the next tournament. He'll have other opportunities to play in the next 14 months, if he chooses, based on his No. 31 position on the 2020-21 season points list.

Weir is making his last scheduled Korn Ferry Tour appearance, in preparation for his PGA Tour Champions debut July 31. Howe, a Weber High School graduate who plays for Georgia Tech, advanced through Monday qualifying in Colorado by shooting a 64 and winning a playoff.
