RSL trades Brooks Lennon to Atlanta

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Real Salt Lake forward Brooks Lennon (12) and San Jose Earthquakes defender Paul Marie (33) as Real Salt Lake hosts the San Jose Earthquakes, MLS soccer at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy on Wednesday Sept. 11, 2019.

Real Salt Lake homegrown player Brooks Lennon is moving on. The club announced Monday it has traded the 22-year-old to Atlanta United in exchange for $150,000 in targeted allocation money and $150,000 in general allocation money.

RSL would also keep a percentage of transfer fees if Lennon is later sold outside of Major League Soccer.

“Brooks has been an integral part of the RSL family for years, starting with our Academy and excelling at every level along the way,” RSL interim general manager Elliot Fall said in a statement. “To be able to get an offer of this value speaks to his development as a player. We are in the fortunate position that we have enough depth to make a trade like this and the Allocation Money we acquired creates an opportunity to further improve our roster.”

Lennon started 16 of the 28 games he played in the 2019 season. He did not score a goal or record an assist in more than 1,500 minutes of action.
