Bees fall to Reno Aces 8-1 for their third straight loss

The Salt Lake Bees suffered their third straight loss in Reno, dropping an 8-1 decision to the Aces late Thursday night.

Reno jumped in front with a solo homer in the first inning by Socrates Brito, but the Bees tied the game in the fifth. Matt Thaiss drove a 1-2 pitch over the wall in left field for his seventh homer in a Salt Lake uniform to make it a 1-1 game.

Reno broke the tie in the bottom of the fifth, as Bees’ starter Ivan Pineyro was touched for two runs on an RBI double by Yasmany Tomas and an RBI single by Ildemaro Vargas. The Aces broke the game open with five runs in the eighth inning.

Pineyro (2-6) took the loss, as he went five innings and allowed three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Pineyro became the first Salt Lake starter to go at least five innings in the last twelve games.

Connor Lillis-White came out of the bullpen and gave up just one run in two and two-third innings with a season high five strikeouts.

The Bees managed just six hits and drew seven walks in the game, but went 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position. Thaiss had three of those hits with two doubles and a home run.
