Nestled in a beautiful historic ward house in Salt Lake City’s Marmalade District, Salt Lake Acting Company’s 26/27 season promises to set the stage on fire with laugh-until-you-cry comedy, spine-tingling storytelling, and a musical with an axe to grind… literally. With five and a half decades under its belt, you might think Salt Lake Acting Company has settled into a pattern of productions you’d expect from an established artistic presence, but the reality is far more exciting.
This season has something for everyone. Kicking off the season is Very Like a Whale by Troy Deutsch, a new comedy featuring the ever-elusive whales of the Great Salt Lake, a co-world premiere alongside Cadence Theatre Company (Richmond, Virginia). Followed by the 18th edition of their celebrated annual children’s show, Utah’s only fully-professional offering of Theatre for Young Audiences, Mo Willems’ The Pigeon Gets a Big Time Holiday Extravaganza! In February 2027, the Utah premiere of The Thin Place, an intimate and surprising new work by Lucas Hnath. In the spring, LIZZIE, a fiery rock musical about the infamous 1892 murder of Andrew and Abby Borden. Rounding out the powerhouse season will be SLAC’s Summer Show 2027, building off the momentum of this year’s hit, The Gaslight Zone, which invites audiences to join in the revelry of laughing at the absurdities of the Beehive State.
