Building a home is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming. The right team can make all the difference.

Duke Building Co. has been helping homeowners in Cache, Box Elder, and Rich counties navigate this process since 2017. With decades of experience in the industry and extensive local knowledge, Duke strives to deliver an exceptional building experience.

At the heart of their system is a belief that building a home, whether it’s a first home or a forever home, should be an enjoyable journey. Their company mission is to build beautiful, long-lasting projects while treating clients like family.

Owner Riley Duke said that what’s most important to them is “knowing that people can trust us no matter where they’re at in the build process. We’re approachable and willing to help them through the challenges of their project.”

In addition to creating a low-stress and transparent process, the Duke team draws on their decades of experience in the industry. This has helped them build a network of proven contractors and given them deep knowledge of the land, climate, and local regulations, permitting and zoning requirements.

Duke Building Co. has completed more than 100 homes from Paradise to Preston, and from Tremonton to Garden City. While every project is unique, Duke Building Co. tailors the experience to each client, beginning with a conversation about the home they want to build and the budget they have in mind.

What Custom Really Means

At Duke Building Co., custom means every project is individualized. For one homeowner, a custom home may mean maximizing natural light or designing around mountain views. For another, it may mean creating a smaller home that fits a carefully planned price point. No two projects look exactly alike because no two homeowners are the same.

“The perception with custom homes is that we only build really expensive homes,” Duke said. “We build according to people’s needs, whether the best quality is their greatest concern or the best price.”

That philosophy can lead to very different outcomes. Duke points to one client who wanted to build a smaller home with a very specific budget. Working closely with the homeowner, Duke Building Co. developed a plan that they said came in below what production builders were charging.

Rather than starting with a predetermined approach, Duke Building Co. begins by understanding what matters most to each homeowner. Some clients arrive with completed plans, while others work with architects, designers or existing floor plans that can be customized to fit their needs. Others have no idea where to begin. Wherever they are in the process, Duke Building Co. works with homeowners from the earliest ideas through the completed home.

Duke personally works with clients before construction begins, helping them navigate one of the biggest financial and personal decisions they may ever make.

“Some people come to us not even knowing where they want to build the house, what size house they want,” he said. “They literally have no experience building and don’t even know where to start.”

Others arrive with completed plans, finish selections and nearly every detail already decided.

Duke explained that they customize the experience to each client, working with people across that entire spectrum based on their goals, priorities and vision for their home.

Experience That Shapes the Approach

Duke’s background includes construction estimating, production homebuilding and graduate studies at Utah State University, where he earned an MBA after completing a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management from Weber State University. His MBA studies included research through the Shingo Institute and a study-abroad experience in Japan. Combined with years of hands-on construction experience, that education continues to shape the approach he brings to every project at Duke Building Co.

While working for a production builder, he began thinking differently about the homebuilding process.

“I realized that there was a big opportunity to use some of the knowledge and the processes that they had as a production builder, and apply it to building custom homes,” he said.

According to Duke, involving the builder early helps clients understand not only what can be built, but also how design decisions affect cost before plans have to be revised.

For Duke Building Co., successful homebuilding doesn’t begin with breaking ground. It begins with thoughtful preparation and clear communication.

Building with Confidence

Behind every Duke Building Co. project is a team specializing in preconstruction, estimating and project management, working together from the earliest stages through completion. Long-standing relationships with trusted subcontractors, combined with careful attention to quality and craftsmanship, help set the company apart.

That commitment has earned Duke Building Co. Platinum Judge’s Awards at the 2024 Top of Utah Parade of Homes.

“We’ve learned through trial and error, navigating the toughest markets and overcoming real challenges—which has driven us to implement systems that consistently deliver an exceptional building experience,” the company says.

Whether someone is ready to build tomorrow, planning for the future or simply exploring what’s possible, the first step is reaching out to start the conversation.
