Red scare?
As the November midterms approach, the word communism has had a bit of a renaissance. Republicans from the executive and legislative branch have been issuing dire warnings about the resurgence of communism in our midst.
As the first generation offspring of parents that escaped from an authoritarian communist regime, I am acutely aware of the trappings of communist rule. What I find puzzling is how many of the strategies employed by communist regimes have been adopted by the current administration.
The Soviets had a well-funded secret police force called the KGB, we have a well-funded secret police force we call ICE. Oppressive communist governments often used the arbitrary enforcement of laws to vindictively quell dissent, we have a “Justice” Department under Todd Blanche that has pursued vindictive prosecution multiple times.
Marxist political parties were less of an organized ruling body than a cabal of loyalists and we have Trump’s Cabinet of horrors.
The pinko commies swear to the infallibility of the party and we have Trump who cannot accept accountability for botched renovations.
They even share the same favorite color, except where it was red stars we see them in red hats.
The only part of Marxist Ideology that they can’t seem to embrace is making health care freely available to all and culling the number of billionaires.
When I hear Republicans wailing about communism, I think of the words of Inigo Montoya, “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”
