Letter: The economic advantages of clean energy are obvious. So why is there such fanatical resistance to it?

(Bethany Baker | The Salt Lake Tribune) Josh Craft, the Director of Government Relations and Public Affairs for Utah Clean Energy, shows the outdoor plug that connects his solar panels to his home in Salt Lake City on Friday, March 20, 2026.

Electrify, electrify, electrify, they say, and it’s good advice. Electricity can be generated through various local means. This vastly simplifies energy supply chains. It bypasses the oligarchs, which is probably why they’re desperate to kill clean energy. These various clean sources of energy combined with storage are actually less expensive and more reliable than the dirty sources. The economic advantages of clean energy are obvious. So why this fanatical right-wing resistance to it?

How and why did the once great USA become a country in which government graft dominates over economics?

The oligarchs once claimed that they alone are the champions of capitalism against the overreach of socialist government. No. Today, they’ve dropped all pretenses to being champions of free enterprise. They just flat out inform us through executive order that you will burn our carbon products and you will pay our high prices.

Because — in their minds — democracy is over. You do what you’re told, slave.

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
