Letter: Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl performance brought a brief, joyful respite from vilification

(Loren Elliott | The New York Times) Bad Bunny performs during the Super Bowl LX halftime show at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026.

As the proud granddaughter of immigrants from Mexico, I was all smiles during Bad Bunny’s halftime performance at the Super Bowl.

The energy, the joy, the smiles, and hope are rare feelings nowadays. And this phenomenal artist brought all of those positives to light in the best way.

At this time, I grab onto all the joy and hope I can when it’s presented to me. There were as many as 130 million people who also enjoyed his playful, beautiful music that unified all of us for a few brief minutes.

I was also delighted for a while with the truth of love over hate. It is hard to hold onto that sentiment when my Hispanic neighbors are being vilified. But, I’m trying.
