As a Type 1 diabetic diagnosed at the age of 46 (I am now 63), I have struggled with getting health insurance to cover more of my related expenses. I work for the state of Utah, but only recently was I able to get the state insurance to actually cover most of my insulin costs, which took a lot more effort than I ever expected. Basically they will only cover one specific brand and type for both short- and long-acting insulin, which reflects kickbacks and payouts being very likely.
What we need is single-payer universal health care, not more permutations of the current profit-based insurance system we have currently in the U.S.
Numerous studies have shown that it would be less expensive than our current system, and would result in better health care and coverage for everyone. Currently the U.S. is not in the top 10 in any health care metrics measured, and if the current administration is truly interested in “Making America Healthy Again” they would support this proposal.
