Letter: Want to see more letters from across the political spectrum? It’s more likely to happen in The Tribune than the Deseret News.

(Matt Rourke | AP) Blue Democratic donkey cookies and red elephant Republican cookies are seen on a tray at the Red Mug Bake Shop Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, in Superior, Wis.

In Marci Esparza’s recent Public Forum submission, titled “Enough of the liberal agenda,” she complained The Tribune is unfairly dominated by Democratic-leaning content.

Publishing her opinion should lessen her concern. Unlike the Deseret News, which evades liberal submissions in its Public Forum section like the plague, I recall several instances when views from the right-wing were published by The Tribune. I strongly support publishing submissions from both sides of the political spectrum.

Esparza is correct in defining Utah as a red state with the majority of voters idolizing Trump and his autocratic goals. However, that percentage doesn’t correlate to the subscribers of The Tribune. The majority of those are anti-Trump who favor democracy. Conservative submissions are therefore hard to come by.

Should Esparza favor balanced editorial content as she claims, that’s more likely to happen in The Tribune. She might want to invite more conservative acquaintances to subscribe to The Tribune to help promote an increase in right-wing submissions.

Another thing to consider is that The Tribune’s Public Forum section is expansive — far superior to the paltry one offered by the Deseret News.
