Letter: Utah legislators are determined to force their beliefs on everyone

I was appalled to see the story about forced sterilizations. But, unfortunately, not surprised. Eugenics was the cruel and ignorant ideology of the day.

I remembered my employer of many years ago who decided to run for the Utah House. He was a Republican and he won. But he decided not to run for reelection and when I asked him why, he said the people in his party were not even considering what was the right thing to do, they only considered what they should do to fit their ideology.

Now we are faced with the same levels of cruelty to people based on the current hot ideological issues, some of which, like CRT, are completely fabricated because they were never taught in public schools. While crying about “wokeness,” they are saying we should not know our true history.

The current legislators are determined to force us all into laws that fit their own beliefs, many of which are religious. Their approach to abortion and trans issues is cruel to those who do not share their religious beliefs. Freedom of religion should be for everyone and should include freedom from religion.
