I was puzzled by Mr. Klepetar’s letter to The Tribune condemning Alta for ignoring canyon traffic issues. I applaud his use of the bus and think he will be happy to learn that his ski pass also provides free bus service to the resort. All four Cottonwood resorts pay the Utah Transit Authority each time one of their pass holders boards a bus on a trip to their resort. It covers bus and TRAX travel in the valley, as well as ski service.
As for his complaint about having his money used to pave parking lots, a case could be made that customers that drive pay for his bus ride.
All of the resorts are very aware of the traffic issues. It doesn’t help their business if customers are unhappy about transit times or don’t come at all because of it. UDOT, UTA, environmental groups, local governments and the resorts have spent a lot of time sharing ideas and working together on these issues. In the last few years, some progress has been made and plans for significant improvements are being finalized. In reality, it is those of us who recreate who are causing the problem, and we should be part of the solution.
