Letter: Before you vote, ask yourself ...

In this Sept. 25, 2020 photo, President Donald Trump does a little dance after speaking at a campaign rally in Newport News, Va. Trump, a man who is famously particular about his appearance, is fully embracing doing a dad dance to the Village People's “YMCA” as the finale to his rallies in the campaign's closing stretch. If you have not yet voted for president, please ask yourself the following simple questions.

Is it possible to vote for Donald Trump and not simultaneously:

Approve of his efforts to sow fear, chaos and division among Americans?

Excuse his diminishing of the world’s respect for America as leader of the free world?

Pardon his disparagement of women and attacks upon women leaders?

Be complicit in his overt racism, racist policies and support of violent extremist groups?

Support his denial of climate change and his refusal to do anything about it?

Excuse his mismanagement of the COVID pandemic and his misleading the American people?

OK his tax cuts for the very wealthiest and his failure to pay taxes himself?

Want four more years of vitriolic tweets, name-calling and bullying?

Condone his daily lies, amoral behavior and belief that he is above the law?

Violate the teachings of your religion or your personal ethics?

Forget about his use of religion as a political tool and the Bible as a photo prop?

Overlook the growing number of Republicans and former national security officials and military leaders who cannot in good conscience vote for him and have endorsed Biden?

Risk America’s democracy by pardoning his attacks on the media and our institutions, his affinity for dictators, and his undeniable efforts to become an autocratic ruler himself?

Thank You for thinking about what your vote represents this year and not merely casting your ballot according to party affiliation.

Ed Marshall, Millcreek
