Our president represents America to the world. Temperament. Truth. Public persona and behavior. Rationality of thought, words, and action. And an ability to be a unifying force that values all people, all life. These things matter, now more than ever, when electing a president, or any representative official. Think Reagan. Think Kennedy.

While you may or not agree with a president’s policies, how they represent America is important. It is not okay for any elected official, especially our president, to lie to his constituents or to put them in harm’s way, as we all know Trump is doing. The erratic way Trump behaves actually points to mental instability which has escalated over the last four years as he has increasingly upped his love affair with power. This is a dangerous mix.

Think country over party this election. Having a president with integrity matters now more than ever this year. Biden has it. Trump doesn’t.

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
